Causes of Urethral Stricture
The most common cause of urethral strictures is a history of infections. Particularly sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea may result in urethral strictures if not treated. Additionally, insertion of a catheter to the bladder through the urethra, cystoscopy, closed prostate and bladder cancer surgery and unsuccessful hypospadias surgery, car accidents, falls from a height as in while riding a horse and external impact to the urethra may result in urethral strictures. Sometimes, urethral strictures may also appear without a known reason.
Causes of Urethral Strictures include;

Insertion of catheters with an inappropriate technique
Procedures such as cystoscopy
Surgeries
Impact to urethra
